Warriors Defeat Lakers 111–103 as Al Horford Shines in Debut, Showcasing Veteran Versatility

The Golden State Warriors opened their preseason with a 111–103 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, but the biggest story of the night wasn’t Stephen Curry’s 14 points — it was the impressive all-around performance from new addition Al Horford.

In just 14 minutes of play, the 39-year-old veteran showcased his trademark versatility and poise, leaving a strong impression on both his teammates and head coach Steve Kerr. After the game, Kerr praised Horford as “a perfect fit” for the team, while Curry noted that the two have already developed solid on-court chemistry.

Although Horford scored only 3 points, his impact went far beyond the stat sheet. He added 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 1 steal, finishing with a team-high +13 plus-minus. His contributions on both ends of the floor highlighted exactly why Golden State brought him in — not to chase stats, but to stabilize, defend, and elevate the play of everyone around him.

Coach Kerr emphasized Horford’s defensive instincts after the game, saying:

“Al’s defense was outstanding. He understands the rhythm of the opponent’s offense, always knows where to be and what to do. His experience in this league makes him incredibly easy to play with.”

Horford’s seamless fit was evident in his first appearance. He spaced the floor effectively, made sharp passes, and communicated constantly on defense. Curry praised his adaptability, saying that Horford can “fit into any lineup we put out there.”

Previously, Horford thrived alongside Kristaps Porziņģis in a twin-tower setup in Boston — a combination that worked remarkably well. Kerr hinted that Golden State might explore similar looks this season, noting that the Warriors now have the depth and versatility to compete with any team in the Western Conference.

Horford’s addition is viewed as a key piece in the Warriors’ renewed championship pursuit. His experience, leadership, and two-way impact have brought fresh energy to the team. Despite being 39 years old, signing Horford is already being hailed as a smart gamble — one that could pay off big as the Warriors aim for another title run.
