Rockets’ Interior Core Evolves Again! Team’s Future Looks Brighter Than Ever

In a recent NBA preseason matchup, the Houston Rockets defeated the Atlanta Hawks 122–113 at home. The win marked a strong start to the preseason for the Rockets, while the Hawks found themselves off to a rough beginning.

Houston’s starting center Alperen Şengün delivered an outstanding performance. In just 17 minutes and 18 seconds of play, he shot 5-for-7 from the field, including 2-for-2 from three-point range, and was perfect from the free-throw line (7-for-7), finishing with a game-high 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks, along with 1 turnover and 2 fouls. He posted a +18 plus-minus rating.

Şengün showcased his versatile offensive arsenal, demonstrating not only efficiency around the rim but also remarkable consistency from beyond the arc. His court vision and ability to facilitate the offense stood out as well. On the defensive end, Şengün impressed with his interior presence and rim protection. Considering his limited minutes, his performance was a strong testament to his excellent offseason development and improved form heading into the new season.

Last season, Şengün appeared in 76 of 82 regular-season games, averaging 31.5 minutes per contest, displaying his all-around impact on both ends of the floor. He also shined in the playoffs and during the FIBA EuroBasket, further solidifying himself as the Rockets’ key interior anchor. As an All-Star selection last year, Şengün’s growth has been instrumental to the Rockets’ resurgence.

His stellar showing in this preseason opener has reignited fans’ optimism, signaling that Şengün’s game continues to evolve in every aspect. Even with the departure of Fred VanVleet, Houston’s strong core performance has fans eager and confident about what the new season may bring.
