Match Report

The England international, who was sidelined through January and February with a thigh injury, set the home side on their way to an eighth straight league victory when he crossed for Gonzalo Garcia to poke home after five minutes.

Mikel Oyarzabal fired Sociedad level from the penalty spot 16 minutes later after Dean Huijsen fouled Yangel Herrera.

But Real Madrid regained the lead in the 25th minute through a Vinicius Jr penalty.

After being hacked down by defender Jon Aramburu, the Brazilian dusted himself down and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Federico Valverde extended the home side's lead six minutes later by arrowing a stunning effort past Alex Remiro.

In the second half, Vinicius converted from the penalty spot again to net his 10th goal of the season and move his side two points clear of Barcelona, who face Girona on Monday.

Real Madrid are next in action on Tuesday, when they host Benfica in the Champions League play-offs, while Real Sociedad face Real Oviedo in La Liga on Saturday.
