Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, United have been unable to reclaim the Premier League title. However, the players still hold onto their ambitions. On December 3, Mbeumo and Amad Diallo expressed in interviews that Manchester United could win the Premier League within two years.
Amorim has now been in charge of Manchester United for one year. Last season, United finished only 15th in the league. This season, the team’s form has been inconsistent — they have beaten Chelsea and Liverpool, but also suffered defeats against Everton and Brentford.
This summer, Manchester United strengthened their attack by signing Cunha, Šeško, and Mbeumo. The overall quality of the squad has clearly improved. The £71 million signing Mbeumo, in particular, has scored 5 goals in 13 Premier League appearances this season and was named the Premier League Player of the Month for October.
Mbeumo and Amad Diallo spoke to Sky Sports, sharing their thoughts on the team’s title ambitions.
“Winning the Premier League within two years? Honestly, why not? Dreams can come true — why can’t we win the title? When you come to Manchester United, you definitely hope to win trophies, and the Premier League is one of them,” Mbeumo said.
Amad Diallo highlighted the team’s positive change. “I think we have improved a lot. Last season, before matches even started, we would already imagine the possibility of losing. But this season our mindset is completely different. We think we can win every match, and that shows improvement. Although we are not satisfied with our current position, we believe we will perform better.”
Who are the leaders inside the Manchester United dressing room? Diallo replied: “Bruno is a leader, Maguire is as well, everyone contributes — even Bryan (Mbeumo) is one.”
The last time Manchester United won the Premier League was the 2012–13 season. After leading the team to the title, Ferguson retired. Since then, United have gone through six permanent managers — Moyes, Van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjær, Ten Hag, and Amorim — along with four interim managers: Giggs, Carrick, Rangnick, and Van Nistelrooy. Yet the results have still not improved significantly. The dream of Mbeumo and Amad Diallo to lift the Premier League trophy within two years will not be easy to achieve.
